How to Save Bookmarks From Anywhere
Browser extension, bookmarklet, or manual add - Recallio gives you three ways to save bookmarks. Here's how each one works and when to use it.
The Recallio bookmarklet works in every browser — including mobile. One-time setup, then saving is a single tap from anywhere.
The browser extension is the fastest way to save bookmarks on desktop, but it only works in Chrome and Firefox. The bookmarklet is the answer for everything else: Safari, mobile browsers, Firefox on Android, or any browser that doesn't support extensions.
A bookmarklet is a browser bookmark that runs JavaScript instead of opening a URL. When you click it, it opens the Recallio save dialog pre-filled with the current page — exactly like the extension popup, but without needing an extension.
That's it. Click the bookmark on any page to open the save dialog.
If you can't see your bookmarks bar: in Chrome, press Ctrl+Shift+B (Windows) or Cmd+Shift+B (Mac). In Firefox, right-click the toolbar and check "Bookmarks Toolbar".
Safari on iOS doesn't allow dragging bookmarks, so the setup takes a few extra steps:
Now when you're on any page in Safari, tap the address bar, type "Save" and the bookmark will appear as a suggestion. Tap it to open the Recallio save dialog.
On Chrome for Android:
To use it: tap the address bar, type "Save to" and select the bookmarklet from the suggestions.
On Firefox for Android:
When you tap the bookmarklet:
The experience is identical to the extension popup. The only difference is it requires one more tap (tapping the bookmarklet bookmark).
The bookmarklet saves the URL, not the content. It works on any page you can view — paywalled, logged-in, or otherwise. Recallio's background metadata fetcher may not be able to retrieve a description if the page requires authentication, but the URL and title are always captured.
Some users keep the bookmarklet as their only Recallio save method, even on desktop, because it doesn't require the extension to be installed. If you work across multiple machines or shared computers, the bookmarklet means you can always save — as long as you're logged into Recallio in the browser.
